Nuvoton Unveils Powerful New Microprocessor Tailored for Advanced Industrial HMI Applications
Nuvoton Technology has recently announced the launch of its latest microprocessor unit (MPU), specifically designed to cater to the demands of high-end human-machine interface (HMI) applications in the industrial sector. This innovative MPU marks a significant step forward in providing a balanced computing solution that bridges the gap between traditional microcontrollers and full-fledged computers.
The Nuvoton MA35H0 series (shown here on its evaluation board) improves processing performance for responsive HMI processing.
The MA35H0 series, as it's called, boasts a robust set of features that make it ideal for complex HMI tasks. At its heart, the MPU is equipped with two high-performance 64/32-bit Arm Cortex-A35 cores, capable of clock speeds up to 650 MHz. This powerful combination ensures smooth and efficient operation, even when handling demanding tasks such as high-resolution graphics rendering and real-time data processing.
One of the standout features of the MA35H0 series is its integrated 128 MB of internal DDR SDRAM. This built-in memory eliminates the need for external memory modules, reducing both board space requirements and overall system cost. Moreover, with 32 KB of L1 cache per core and 512 KB of L2 cache, the MA35H0 provides ample storage for frequently accessed data, further enhancing its performance.
Compared to microcontrollers, the Nuvoton MPUs place more emphasis on computing and processing power than peripherals, allowing them to target different applications. (Click image to enlarge)
In terms of graphics processing, the MA35H0 series supports 2D graphics and video playback at resolutions up to 1280x800 at 60 frames per second. This capability enables rich and interactive user interfaces, essential for modern industrial HMI applications.
Security is another key aspect of the MA35H0 series. The MPU incorporates Arm TrustZone technology for secure boot, ensuring that only authorized software can be loaded during system startup. Additionally, it features multiple cryptographic accelerators and an isolated OTP (One-Time Programmable) memory, providing robust protection against data breaches and tampering.
The versatility of the MA35H0 series makes it suitable for a wide range of applications beyond industrial HMI. Potential use cases include smart home appliances, medical devices, and even automotive infotainment systems. Its ability to strike a balance between performance and power consumption makes it a compelling option for designers seeking a mid-tier processing solution.
Overall, Nuvoton's new MA35H0 series of MPUs represents a significant advancement in embedded processing technology. With its powerful computing capabilities, integrated memory, and robust security features, it is poised to become a key enabler of next-generation industrial HMI applications.
